MMIWG Project

The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Calls to Justice seeks substantive equality for Indigenous Women and Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people by addressing the genocide of violence and to transform systemic and societal values that have worked to maintain colonial violence and undermine the safety of Indigenous Women and Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+. Indigenous Women continue to seek the full consideration of their thoughts, ideas and needs in advancing the well-being of all Canadians.

Come learn with Indigenous Women for Innovation in Law (IWIL). IWIL is hosting a two-part gathering, one via zoom and one in-person on The MMIWG Final Report and Calls For Justice. You will be supported to become informed and empowered to address the political socio-economic realities of violence against Indigenous women through education, training and cultural and trauma informed dialogue.

The project seeks to gather Indigenous women community members of Northern Saskatchewan to provide information on the Calls for Justice to provide greater engagement of women in dialogues affecting them in their communities and the larger society.

The participants will include women with lived experience, community knowledge keepers and women engaged in advancing Indigenous culture within the community to the boardroom. The education component of the Principles of MMIWG Final Report and supplementary documents along with the Calls for Justice will encompass a gathering with resources specific to violence, safety and self care strategies for success. The second component will engage through a traditional medicine knowledge keeper to provide guidance and land-based teachings through trauma informed, cultural indigenous processes. The medicine knowledge keeper will teach about land medicine, informing on where found, protocol which strengthens relationship between women and the land.

This project is made possible through the Government of Saskatchewan, Metis Legal Education Foundation Inc. and Indigenous Women for Innovation in Law.
